NBA Season Predictions: Awards, Conference Standings, and more.

Going on the record here with these. I’m sure all of these predictions will be 100% correct when I look back at the end of the season.

Awards:

MVP: Nikola Jokic, runner up: Giannis.
DPOY: Rudy Gobert
ROY: Tyler Herro (assuming Zion doesn’t play 50+ games)*
COY: Mike Malone
6MOY: Lou Williams
MIP: Jonathan Isaac
Scoring title: Stephen Curry

Championship: Clippers over 76ers in 6.
Conference Championships: Clippers over Nuggets & 76ers over Bucks
Most disappointing teams: TWolves & Pistons
Most surprising teams: Celtics & Bulls

All-Rookie 1st team:

Ja Morant, Tyler Herro, RJ Barrett, Zion Williamson, PJ Washington.

Below are my predictions for regular season standings:

Western Conference:

  1. Denver Nuggets
  2. Los Angeles Clippers
  3. Houston Rockets
  4. Los Angeles Lakers
  5. Utah Jazz
  6. Golden State Warriors
  7. Portland Trail Blazers
  8. San Antonio Spurs
  9. New Orleans Pelicans
  10. Sacramento Kings
  11. Dallas Mavericks
  12. Phoenix Suns
  13. Oklahoma City Thunder*
  14. Minnesota Timberwolves
  15. Memphis Grizzlies

The Western Conference is an absolute nightmare. I think barring injury the top 7 are locks, but the 8th seed will be up for grabs from basically teams 8 to 14. It’s going to be a very competitive year and no one will have a night off or easy win against anyone in the West this year.

*OKC is the toughest team for me to gauge currently… if they keep their team together and click well they are a darkhorse 8 seed candidate. If they sell and deal all of their vets they could end up at the bottom of the West with Memphis.

Eastern Conference:

  1. Milwaukee Bucks
  2. Philadelphia 76ers
  3. Boston Celtics
  4. Indiana Pacers
  5. Miami Heat
  6. Brookyln Nets
  7. Orlando Magic
  8. Toronto Raptors
  9. Chicago Bulls
  10. Detroit Pistons
  11. Atlanta Hawks
  12. New York Knicks
  13. Washington Wizards
  14. Charlotte Hornets
  15. Cleveland Cavaliers

The Eastern Conference has two of the best teams in the NBA in Philly and Milwaukee, but outside of that there aren’t any true title contenders at the moment. I think Boston surprises some people along with Chicago making a strong playoff push. There are some interesting storylines to follow in this conference and it should be a fun, well-balanced playoff race.

This is one of the more exciting seasons in recent memory due to the parity and uncertaintity around the league right now.

Additional Prediction: Devin Booker makes his first All-Star Game.
